The fashion industry realises the importance of digital technology. It needs developers and designers to help them realise and create exciting digital innovations. They need people like you, developers and designers, to build some amazing things. Numerous digital applications arise rapidly in the fashion world. For example, 3D printing has been used for machine parts, airplanes and even jewellery. Rings or necklaces are already being printed in 3D. Think about what 3D printed fabrics, buttons or zippers can do for the fashion world.

Bart Veldhuizen from the 3D printing company Shapeways will be coming to LCF to give a lecture, followed by a question and answer session on 3D Printing for Fashion. Students that are interested in the new materials, scope, costs and future implications of the impact of 3D printing for fashion are strongly encouraged to attend!

Digital Fashion 2013 is the inaugural event organised and hosted by the Fashion Digital Studio and establishes a premier international forum for the dissemination of novel scholar work on the interplay between fashion, digital technology and interaction design. The event will be attended by industry and academia and will feature keynote speakers and presentations from both.

The Fashion Digital Studio came to the rescue at the eleventh hour for the V&A's Hollywood Costume exhibition. Dorothy Gale's iconic gingham dress was missing the buttons at the back. With only a photograph for reference we remodelled the new buttons using CAD software and 3D printed a shiny fresh new pair, all done within a couple of hours.

The FASHION & GAMES LAB is a three day residential lab that brings together 26 creative professionals from all over Europe to explore new, untrodden paths. How can games be implemented in branding and marketing? Which applications can you mobilize to build solid and lasting customer relations? How does fashion appear in the various game genres that are currently available in the market? The group will be composed of fashion industry entrepreneurs, game developers designers. They will be coached by five experts, among whom Katz Kiely (Constructive Disruption, UK), Katie Bell (Stardoll, UK) and Philip Delamore (London College of Fashion, UK)

The Simone Handbag Museum opened in Seoul, South Korea on 19th July, housed in a stunning architectural bag-shaped structure by. The collection is designed and curated by Judith Clark, Reader in Fashion Curation at LCF, and the museum displays a collection of around 300 historical and contemporary Western handbags and purses. The display mannequins developed to reflect significant historical moments, and a particular penchant of Clark, include commisioned artwork by Philip Delamore of FDS, who created a sculptural body fitting textile piece using generative software which was realised in 3D printed Nylon.

Working together with embroidery student Freyja Sjöfn, Luke Shaw’s work for his Menswear final collection developed a look that grew from traditional and recognisable garments into abstract experiments.

Hoon Chung’s footwear collection features non-glue construction, new rapid prototyped soft materials and a modular component structure, all neatly slotted together into these fantastic shoes.

Francesca Smith's collection is inspired by the mourning practices of Victorian Britain. It concentrates on exploring classic designs from the Victorian era, then reinventing them using modern technologies using digital design and rapid prototyping manufacturing processes. She explores a variety of materials from woods to fabrics, metals and rapid prototyped plastics. These components are partnered with soft textiles and human hair, ensuring that this collection embodies Francesca Smith's design style.

Arena Page's MA collection is inspired by the single sided surface (The Mobius Strip) through the study of Topology. Exploring the region between art and mathematics and finding beauty in geometry. Complex, minimal surfaces were generated using Rhino, a 3D Nurbs modelling program to which a ‘flattening’ process was applied. The flat 2D patterns transferred to paper and fabric for further manipulation and experimentation in relation to the body. This design process changes the design methodology; going from 3D surface to 2D and then back to 3D. Arena worked with David Sweeney in the Fashion Digital Studio to realise her initial ideas, the results can be seen in the "Sweeney" Jacket as part of her final collection.

This month saw the official launch of the Designer-Manufacturer Innovation Support Centre (DISC) at London College of Fashion’s Mare Street Campus. The launch event was attended by Harold Tillman, Chairman of the British Fashion Council, representatives of the EU Commission for Enterprise and Industry and the Minister for Hackney Regeneration and the 2012 Olympics.

MA Footwear student Ross Barber shows new 3D printed components combined with traditional shoe making craft at the LCF MA graduate exhibition. Previewing carbon black 'soft-touch' flexible material with sponsorship from EOS, and utilising optimised material structures from Within Labs - which create the organic sole and overshoe structures by generating honeycomb like structures in a software package normally used for medical implants and aerospace engineering applications. The shoes were also on the catwalk at the V&A graduate show, proving that the technology is now going beyond just prototyping and into the realms of manufacturing real product solutions.

As part of the forthcoming seminar series highlighting the merging expertise of some of the most renowned UK creative experts and Lebanese designers, Philip Delamore from the Fashion Digital Studio will be talking about the studio’s influence on the agendas of education, research, and commerce.

Block Party: Contemporary Craft Inspired by the Art of the Tailor, is a new national touring exhibition from the Crafts Council that previewed at designjunction, Victoria House, Southampton Row, 22nd – 25th September, as part of the London Design Festival.

How the convergence of sustainable design strategies and digital technologies will enable the future of the Fashion & Textiles Industries. Philip Delamore, Fashion Digital Studio and Dilys Williams, Centre for Sustainable Fashion will be presenting at the Research & Education Pavilion Speakers Platform at ITMA, 24th September 2011, as part of the sustainable solutions talks from 2PM - 6.30 PM

Simon’s research is concerned with generating new ideas for fashion design. His projects frequently employ a degree of interactivity and encourage the role of an audience in determining, in part, the course or outcome of a fashion product or experience.
